MAKING BITTER LOOK GOOD ON BROWN SKIN

BY TAYLOR BLAND

Making Bitter Look Good On Brown Skin is a poetry collection by author Taylor Bland to be published TBD. For the cover the author wanted to incorporate images of a natural-haired black girl and a street sign that read "Unhappy st." "Unhealthy" st.

This book is a composition of her personal journey and the observed journey of loved ones elating her frustrations related to racism, sexism, and personal identity.

For the concept, I collaged together a few images and played with the idea of personal identity by leaving the woman’s face blank, still yet to be discovered. She wanted the cover to feel energized and fun, so I chose a modern font. While the holes in her collar show the flaws of society.
